Libraries of Stevens County Legacy Projects aim to enhance library infrastructure, expand services, and foster community engagement. Libraries are vital community centers, supporting education, information access, and cultural enrichment. Despite their significance, many libraries in Stevens County face challenges such as limited space and outdated facilities. The Libraries of Stevens County seized an opportunity to improve its libraries through grants and community support.

The Legacy Projects involve building new libraries in Loon Lake and Hunters, as well as renovating existing ones in Northport, Chewelah, and Colville. These enhancements will create modern spaces with meeting rooms, technology, and resources essential for economic development, literacy promotion, and lifelong learning.

To match grants and cover project costs, the Libraries of Stevens County is conducting fundraising efforts to raise at least $1,000,000. Private contributions, naming opportunities, and incentives for donors are encouraged to support the completion of these projects. Volunteer groups are already engaged in fundraising efforts.

Improved library buildings offer numerous community benefits, including access to information, lifelong learning opportunities, community engagement, digital access, and cultural enrichment. They serve as gathering spaces for classes, story times, clubs, families and friends.

Legacy is emphasized as the lasting impact of actions, values, and contributions. Public libraries are available to everyone and are therefore uniquely positioned to provide a legacy that will impact all residents of Stevens County. Together we can all create a legacy that supports everyone in Stevens County.

Libraries are for everyone.

Since 1998, Stevens County Rural Library District has been encouraging a love of literacy, entertaining and educating residents, as well as providing important reference resources to all. Libraries encourage life-long learning through new skill development, alternate perspectives, and creditable sources. Access to information is the key to success in any community. Libraries don't just bridge the gap for our most vulnerable; they fiercely champion access for everyone, furnish vital resources for our communities, and ignite fresh ideas for all.
